An applicant for a Super Visa must be a parent or grandparent of a citizen or permanent resident of Canada. Super visa applicants need to obtain invitation letter from child in Canada who meets LICO requirements and medical insurance coverage for 1 year fully paid.
An applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months after the application date. Effective July 04, 2022, Canada has increased the length of stay from 2 years to 5 years at a time and an additional 2 years of extension is allowed, which means an applicant can now stay in Canada up to 7 years in a single entry.
IMM 5257 – Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada; IMM 5645 – Family Information; IMM 5484 – Document Checklist; IMM 5257 – Schedule 1 – Statutory Declaration of Common Law Union; IMM 5476 – Use of a Representative, if applicable.
A list of all people who reside in the household including those previously sponsored and whose sponsorship is still in effect (for Parent and Grandparent Super Visas only); and a contract from your sponsor guaranteeing your parents or grandparents financial support for their stay in Canada. Income showing that the visitor’s total income meets or exceeds the low-income cut off (LICO).
Two photographs. & Proof of your relationship with the Canadian citizen or permanent resident you wish to visit (such as birth certificates, baptismal certificates, or other official documents).
Child or grandchild letter of invitation that provides details about the applicants care and support. Include the applicant’s full name, passport information, visa information, date of birth, occupation information, and length of stay in the letter. This letter must specifically mention the following: Details of the family unit, including name of spouse and dependants (this is mandatory for parents and grandparents Super Visa);
Proof from applicant’s child or grandchild that he meets the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) which is as below:
Proof that the applicants have private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year from a Canadian insurance company and that covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation, provides a minimum coverage of $100 000, and is valid for each entry to Canada and be available for review by a port of entry officer. Please note that quotes are no longer acceptable and the 1 year insurance premium must be paid in full before making super visa application.
Embassy or visa office may request for any additional documents if required.
Biometrics required
In most cases, those from visa-required countries need to submit their fingerprints and photos on application.
If you are a visa exempt, you can apply for a super visa.
For those who do not need a visitor visa to enter Canada, they can still obtain a super visa to stay in the country. Upon approval, a letter will be sent to you during your arrival in Canada for giving to the border services officer. Additionally, you may need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) separately if you plan to travel by air. You will be required to travel to Canada with the passport you used when you applied for the eTA, as well as your letter.
